A semi-final game against a team from division one, who have only conceded 4 goals in their league games, today was always going to be a tough one! For 30 minutes of the first half the lads played brilliantly, our defence not allowing any sort of a chance to Apollo and creating some chances for ourselves. Unfortunately five minutes before half time our defence was caught flat footed in tthe area and allowed Apollo the chance they had been waiting for and the ball was fired into the net from ten yards out. The lads could have let their heads drop but they didn't and the score stayed at 1-0 at half time. Second half saw a more determined Apollo and with ten minutes of the re-start they had taken a 3-0 lead which I knew we could never come back from.New mills battled on and to be fair put on a good performance against an obviously much better side but once again Apollo found a way through our defence and made the score 4-0. Sam then moved into midfield and which seemed to panic Apollo a little, his powerful surging runs made their defence uneasy and that paid off when he won the ball from an apollo goal kick and ran towards goal. The Apollo defence tried to get a tackle in but Sam was much too strong, seeing off the challenges he fired the ball into the corner of the net, making it a more respectable score of 4-1 which is how the game ended. I always tell the lads that as long as they give 100% that's all they can do and that's what they did today, they were beaten by a much better side but didn't just lie down and be trampled, so well done lads even though you lost.
